Southwark Council has approved plans for the second phase of works to transform Tustin Estate near the Old Kent Road.
The next phase will provide 88 new council homes, 58 keyworker homes, five homes provided for returning leaseholders from the old towers and 144 homes for private sale; 295 in all. The homes will be built in a mix of maisonettes and flats across four buildings.
The ambitious renewal of Tustin Estate will transform the entire area for local people. When completed, the four-phase masterplan will feature a central park, comprehensive refurbishment of existing council homes, over 1,800 sqm of commercial space, and a new replacement primary school.
Collaborative design workshops have allowed residents to choose the design of their new estate from outdoor signage to the colour schemes of the new homes, ensuring the area reflects the wishes of the local community. Building works started on Tustin Estate in autumn 2022, and the second phase of works is expected to start in spring 2026. The entire redevelopment is projected to be finished in 2030.
āIām thrilled that plans have been given the go ahead for the next exciting phase of development at Tustin Estate, bringing us one step closer to the transformation envisaged in the Tustin Masterplan... I look forward to seeing residents moving into their new homes and the continued improvements to this estate and surrounding area as the renewal continues to progress.ā Cllr Helen Dennis, Cabinet Member for New Homes and Sustainable Development
