Welcome to our new website

Welcome to our new website

Back in pre-lockdown March (which now feels like a lifetime ago) we partnered with Leeds based studio Rabbit Hole to design and build a new website. Our first major website update in over a decade.

As we celebrate our 25th year, the development of a new website has provided the right opportunity to pause and reflect on how far we have come, who we are in 2020, and our aspirations for the future.

The six-month-long project was an enjoyable and unifying team effort; requiring us to come together (albeit over Zoom) to define our values, tell the stories behind our projects, and establish a consistent visual identity and tone-of-voice. Like many of our architecture projects, it was a genuinely collaborative effort, we worked with writers Matt Morgan and Ann Dingli  to refine our website’s language, reflecting dRMM’s core philosophy and design approach.

A quick tour of the site

Whilst previous iterations of our website have communicated what we do; this latest version is more of an attempt to express who we are. The homepage lists six fundamental principals that define us as a practice:
[1]

Our Studio page describes our culture, inclusivity, and desire to build a truly representative workplace; whilst the Collaborations page outlines our collaborative processes with clients and creative minds around the World.

The new Projects  section allows us to tell stories; from the initial challenges and site history; to design-led solutions, construction, and the project’s subsequent afterlife and evolution. An ‘insights column’ on the right enables us to embellish each project-story with photo galleries, think-pieces, and voices from the dRMM team, clients, and end-users.

Ready to be even bolder

The design of the website is very much in dRMM’s mould—practical, design-led, and clear; but with unexpected twists and moments of joy. The work of influential modernist graphic-designer Massimo Vignelli was a particular reference during the design stage, with structured and straightforward layouts acting as a restrained and rational counterpoint for the exuberance of dRMM’s work.

Our new website shows the full dimension of our studio—the making, the thinking, the studio culture, and our ongoing contribution to innovation in architecture and construction. As we transition to a post-pandemic world, we’re ready to be even bolder and continue our contribution to people, place, and planet.
