Hounslow Council has approved the housing-led redevelopment of GlaxoSmithKline’s former west London HQ, submitted by developers Hadley Property Group.
Plans were drawn up by a multi-disciplinary team led by Haworth Tompkins, with dRMM, Metropolitan Workshop and Studio Egret West for 980 Great West Road. The vision is to create a truly mixed-use development; an integrated live and work ‘campus’.
dRMM’s three plots, on the east of the masterplan, will provide creative workspace and community uses alongside well over 200 homes as part of the wider site housing ambition.
Across the 13-acre site, 61% of which is dedicated to public realm, the approved plans deliver around 2,300 homes and 300,000 sq ft of commercial, community and educational space. The reuse-first strategy retains the basement, substructure and original tower of the GSK buildings, saving more than 34,500 tonnes of embodied carbon and demonstrating the impact retrofit can have at scale.
