Southwark Council selects dRMM-led team for Tustin Estate regeneration

dRMM are part of the team who will be working with local residents to redesign the Tustin Estate in Southwark.

dRMM, together with Adam Khan Architects and JA Projects, have won a Southwark Council competition to take forward further work to redesign the five-hectare site behind the Old Kent Road. Exterior Architecture will be joining the team as landscape architects and Beyond the Box will be working on community engagement and a social value offer.

The mixed-tenure, residential-led scheme comprises council homes, shared equity homes and key worker accommodation. There will also be homes for private sale to raise funds for the council housing. A new primary school will be provided along with commercial space and a new park at the centre of the estate.

The designs, informed by positive community engagement, will focus on creating a great place to live with an active central green space, a re-developed school and innovative housing design.

The Tustin Estate reconstruction is an important project for Southwark Council, the residents, and for dRMM. We have developed skillsets in school and housing design, and creative community engagement. We are ready to use them. The existing masterplan by the DSDHA team ‘Common Grounds’ and Southwark Council’s dedicated work with the residents offers a strong departure point for development. This team want to make the whole Tustin Estate - school, housing and landscape, an example of socially oriented, integrated contemporary design.
