The Portal Buildings are in contention for three categories at the Brick Development Association Awards: Public Building, Craftsmanship, and AVV Solutions are nominated for Specialist Brickwork Contractor.
dRMM’s recently completed Portal Buildings, for client Riverlinx, are located in the London Borough of Newham and the Royal Borough of Greenwich, marking either end of the new Silvertown Tunnel. The nominations across multiple categories reflect the skill of both the design and delivery teams.
The articulated brick façades help create prominent architectural landmarks, marking the tunnel entrances as gateways to this major piece of infrastructure. The buildings house essential services and workspaces for the tunnel operator while also serving as striking visual markers of strategic importance. Each Portal Building has its own distinct form, yet both are united by the articulated Flemish bond brickwork, which creates a striking chain-link effect across the façades.
