dRMM Re-framed

dRMM re-frames its leadership structure, consolidating its Directorship and welcoming five new Associate Directors
The studio was founded in 1995, entering the UK architecture industry focused on sustainability, innovation and the creation of socially useful architecture.
Thirty years later, we’re restructuring, consolidating our leadership with Jonas Lencer, Judith Stichtenoth, Philip Marsh and Saskia Lencer at the helm, joined by a new tier of Associate Directors across the London and Berlin teams. NazIi Usta, Steve Wallis, Victoria Hale and Will Howard, will occupy Associate Director roles in the London studio, while Tonia Tkachenko will be Associate Director in Berlin.
We’re proud to have built a reputation for pioneering timber architecture and pushing the sustainability agenda in the UK, creating buildings and places that are loved by users, and expanding into the European market in 2022 through the establishment of the studio’s presence in Berlin.
Our founders, Alex de Rijke, Philip Marsh and Sadie Morgan first set up the practice on the strength of a competition win for Kingsdale School and a commission for ‘Centaur Street’, a new housing typology. The latter winning RIBA London Building of the Year, with Kingsdale becoming one of the seminal projects of the Building Schools for the Future programme. They went on to nurture what became an open, collaborative and bold studio, delivering a significant portfolio of projects across multiple sectors in London and the UK. Shortlisted three times for the RIBA Stirling Prize, dRMM won it in 2017 for Hastings Pier.

As of summer 2025, Alex de Rijke and Sadie Morgan will step back from their leadership roles, with Sadie stepping down as a Director. Both will remain ambassadors of the studio, whilst pursuing individual endeavours in advisory, academia and practice roles. The studio is grateful to the founders both for their continued mentorship, and their inspiration over the past three decades.
We meanwhile enter our 30th year with fresh vigour, strengthening the focus on design and continuing to build on our research arm, which has been championed by the new directors. This creativity is embodied in the process and design of the new studio’s retrofit at Coate Street. As dRMM moves forward, the Directors each bring their longstanding expertise to a studio operating in a changed and challenging industry.
Our ambition is for dRMM to continue to be a space where a blend of curiosity, innovation and pragmatism define how we work and who we are as a team. We are a group of designers and researchers who don't follow a static design formula. We work together to respond to multiple design, economic, social and environmental challenges at once, doing so through inventive and unexpected ideas. We are excited to see how this process will continue to evolve as we develop as a team, always with the goal of creating architecture that responds to climate, urban context, and social condition.
