The analysis of Wintringham Primary Academy, a school with a structure and interior made predominantly from cross-laminated timber (CLT), considers carbon emissions from construction to operation. Furthermore, the report includes an evaluation of efforts of addressing the triple crisis of climate emergency, biodiversity erosion, and social divide which dRMM believe are factors of sustainable design and construction.
According to Cundall’s embodied carbon assessment, the report confirms that Wintringham Primary Academy is 12% less impactful than the RIBA 2030 target. This means that despite predating the widespread understanding of embodied and whole life carbon, the design was able to showcase a significant carbon avoidance and achieve a LETI Rating ‘B’ for its Embodied Carbon impact.
With this summary we seek to be transparent and open about the successes and limitations of this project, so that others can learn from our findings for the benefit of future projects. As we continue to learn we express our enthusiasm through our commitments to participation in positive action against environmental degradation.
